Knocked Out Tooth

(Baby Tooth or Permanent Tooth)

If your child has a baby tooth that has been knocked out due to an accident or injury, clean the area gently and apply pressure with a washcloth or gauze (to stop any bleeding). Please notify us, and we will schedule an exam to ensure that no other teeth were damaged in the accident.

A knocked-out permanent tooth is a more serious problem that must be addressed immediately. If it’s a whole tooth, only touch the crown (top white portion) while gently rinsing it with water and attempting to place it back into the socket it came from, with your son or daughter holding it there with their tongue. Alternatively, place it in a small container of milk and bring it to our office or the nearest hospital as soon as possible. In these situations, time is of the essence; the sooner you act, the better your chances of saving the tooth.
