A dental crown is a covering like a “cap,” which protects the entire surface of a tooth, allowing it to function normally. Crowns are used when a cavity, injury, or deformity has destroyed so much of the tooth structure that filling material cannot be used to repair the tooth or when the tooth has been treated with a baby root canal or the tooth structure is malformed. Crowns typically last until the baby teeth fall out naturally. We offer two types of crowns at Kids Choice Pediatric Dentistry: stainless steel (silver) and esthetic (tooth colored). Stainless steel crowns are extremely durable and recommended for baby molars and they are easy to maintain. The esthetic tooth colored crowns are best for anterior teeth to help your child maintain his or her beautiful smile.

White crowns perform the same function as silver caps, but they complement your child’s natural pearly whites beautifully. If your child requires a crown, Dr. Ezeanolue will explain the benefits and drawbacks of each type. If your child becomes anxious during treatment, appropriate sedation will be applied.
